The speakers and solar panel are normally mounted at the top of a pole, with the electronics and battery in a secure weatherproof enclosure on the side of the pole at a height where it is not readily accessible without a ladder. The local activation switch and microphone are housed in a secure but accessible location on the pole. The system is controlled over a radio channel with equipment at a centralised location such as Civil Defence Headquarters. Secondary control equipment can be installed in other locations to provide redundancy or back up operation. For example basic equipment could be installed in a Civil Defence Officer's vehicle. Alert units monitor battery condition and system security and transmit any off normal conditions to the base equipment. |
